An Apology was received from Councillor Farr

Voting was thereupon taken and the names of the Members voting for and against the Recommendation and those abstaining were read to the Council:

FOR THE RECOMMENDATION:  Councillors Bateman, Mrs Batty, Beavis, Rev Blackman, Burgess, Casey, Carter, Mrs Cully, Hook, Mrs Hook, Mrs Huggins, Jessop,  Mrs Jones, Mrs Morgan, Murphy, Philpott, Raffaelli, Scard, The Mayor (19)

AGAINST THE RECOMMENDATION: Councillors Ms Ballard, Chegwyn, Earle, Foster-Reed, Hammond, Herridge, Hicks, Hutchison, Hylands, Johnston, Miss Kelly, Pepper, Mrs Prickett, Mrs Westerby (14)

In accordance with Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 two thirds of the Members present and voting at the Council meeting convened for the purposes of electing an Alderman must vote in favour of the proposal.

COUNCIL RESOLVED: That the recommendation not agreed.

COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED: That, in accordance with Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972,the Rights, Titles, Privileges, Honours and Distinctions granted by the Borough to Dennis Wright in recognition of his eminent services to the people and Borough of Gosport over many years.
